Nob Hill Artist of the Month

April/May

Timothy LeRoy Meeham – April 23- May 21

Earth, sky, water, wind: Each, a spiritual looking glass. If we will simply look at these elements honestly and without preconceptions, we may begin to see reflected by them our true nature; that nature being, I believe, one of perfect balance.

My paintings are inspired by the poetry of landscape, initially in an intuitive way, gradually evolving into an integration of my soul’s artistic momentum with the eternal constancy of the rhythm of the universe.

It is my hope that those who view m work will make their own personal soulful connections, with a resolve to live life with an attitude of profound positivity.

March/April

April Park – March 26th – April 23rd

What’s better than an awesome bartender who makes amazing drinks? An awesome bartender who makes amazing drinks and beautiful art! This month’s pieces come from one of our very own staff! Although she’s good enough to “quit her day job”, we’re certainly happy she’s not going to!

Susan Cooper – January 1st – January 31st

Welcome to the exhibit at O’Niell’s Pub of Susan Cooper’s paintings showing some of her favorite subjects. She loves painting flowers and has been particularly entranced with the delicacy and wide variety of colors in irises but she has painted a few other flowers, as well. She had included some of her still-life and landscapes; some of the latter represent the extensive traveling that she does.

Susan paints primarily with pastels and oils but has also used colored pencils, acrylics, and rarely, watercolors.

Trained as a scientist and an engineer, with a PhD and two M.S. degrees, Susan spent a number of years as an environment engineer. Her art career didn’t begin until she was 50 years old, when she discovered that she could draw a fairly decent sketch of the back of her hand – which was quite a surprise.

She is also a published author. Most of the writing has been in the technical areas, such as a book about mold (the Truth about Mold), which is not in its second edition, and articles for magazines. Recently, she has delved into fiction and is currently writing a novel with her husband, Randy Cooper, who creates wire-mesh sculptures of torsos and is largely responsible for her extensive traveling.

December

Susan Hunt – December 1st – January 1st

With 30+ years of teaching secondary school English and history in Puerto Rico (and elsewhere) behind her, Susan Hunt moved to Albuquerque several years ago. Painting, always an enthusiastic avocation, now absorbs a generous portion of her time. Working in oil, acrylic, watercolor, gouache, and colored pencil, she pays particular attention to detail. She is equally at home sketching in the field, painting in the studio, or working with digital media. Her landscapes draw on environments where she has lived and traveled.

A year and a half ago Susan began her “Nob Hill Project” — a series of scenes depicting the picturesque Albuquerque neighborhood which she now calls home. She continues to add to the “Project” which is a feature of her O’Niell’s show.

In Puerto Rico she had shows at the Sala de Arte of the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez and at the Secret Garden Gallery (Rincon, PR). In Albuquerque she has exhibited at The Church of Beethoven, The Filling Station, and at Masterworks of New Mexico 2010.

Kimberly Love Showing May 29 – June 26

Kimberly Love is a contemporary artist hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over 15 years of meticulous personal study and experimentation, she has developed a signature technique using only a palette knife and impasto to create depth you can literally touch. “I call myself a ‘reflectionist artist’ because I believe that the universe mirrors each of us in a unique way. My art is a multi-dimensional reflection of life and the way I perceive the world.” Her work illustrates the beauty in life’s simple pleasures; each piece is a multifaceted act of expression, created to stimulate the imagination. “My paintings are visually rich and deeply layered, speaking to feelings of desire, loneliness, longing and communion.” Love draws inspiration from greats like Pollock and Van Gogh, whose aesthetics have influenced the major thematic elements she employs, such as texture and gestural abstraction. Kimberly’s art can be found in galleries, office spaces, private residences, salons, restaurants and presidential suites worldwide.

Andrea Martinez Showing April 3 – May 1

My name is Andrea Martinez. I was born and raised in majestic Albuquerque, NM. I am a University of New Mexico alumni and spent 6 years climbing the executive ladder. I was laid off with the market downturn in December of 2008.  As a result, my true passion was born and my path as an artist unfolded.

These pieces represent my transformation from a ‘human doing’ into a ‘human being.’ My work is more about feeling and less about seeing. Everything you see here was done purely with hands. No brushes. No tools. No gloves. I simply filter my purest of expressions and feelings of being in the moment. The here. The now.

This is the first time any of these pieces have been out of their studio and publicly shown. Thank you for sharing this pivotal step in what I hope is a life long journey of sharing this message of life. Of love. Of light. Something we’re all a part of.

Gracious regards,

Andrea

Jan Tras Showing February 27 – April 3

Being a psychotherapist during the day I paint whenever I can. This is the next career. It is one of the hardest and most rewarding things I have ever done. I have been painting for 10 years now, studying with Leo Neufeld, Michelle Chrisman, and Cythia Rowlands.

These oil paintings have been completed in the past year, always done from real life, real people, and the landscapes in plein air. Trying to capture an image, its movement, depth and feeling on a two dimensional surface is quite a challenge. Please try it…it is a humbling experience. Art is forever and I hope you  enjoy this.

Thank you O’Niell’s for showing my work again.
