Jack Atkins – November 13th-January 16

Jack Atkins paints the southwest’s intense desert light, its spectacular vistas, and the people and things that create its sense of place.  He has been fascinated with its culture and traditions since he was a teenager in Taos, New Mexico, a place that influenced him with how strongly it emphasizes and values art and artists. Now the paintings of this fourth-generation New Mexican use vivid colors and dramatic compositions to tell the story of this area’s underlying sense of drama and history.

Jack’s paintings are in a contemporary realist style, usually focusing on southwestern themes, especially those related to regional culture and traditions.

Frank Fehlman and Valerie PruchaOctober 16th-November 13

My husband, Frank Fehlman and I, Valerie Prucha, have been a team for over twenty years each with our own unique abilities and talents. Ten years ago, we discovered that with his eye for detail and design and my artistic  abilities we could create architectual illustrations. Sine then we have branched out into our own media.

Frank has been a photographer for over thirty years and in this art show captured our nation’s love affiar with automobiles. He found a graveyard, in which he keeps the location a secret, automobiles from bygone era that were laid to rust and degration and through this photography restores them back to life.

Ten years ago, interior design school, I was drawn to the art of illustration. I was fascinated with how through simple lines and shadow I could turn a pencil circle into a three dimensional ball. Since then, I have been enchanted with light, shadow and color. Frank’s photography flowers at the botanical garden and his brilliant play of light was my inspiration for trying to capture God’s creation through pastel.

Friends Sharing Art, featuring the art of Judi Foster & Kathleen Tucker Landreth- Showing August 21 -  September 25

Friends Sharing Art is the theme for a joint exhibition featuring the art of two long-time friends, Judi Foster and Kathleen Tucker Landreth.  Each artist has a unique artistic style.

Judi Foster’s paintings are Expressive and convey her interpretation of our highly lighted Southwest.  Should her medium be oil, acrylic or watercolor, realism always presents itself to the viewer.

Kathleen Tucker Landreth also finds inspiration in the beauty of our Southwestern surroundings.  She interprets her art in the media of oil, acrylic and watercolor; sometimes using mixed media and collage.

These two artists and friends hope to share their joint exhibition with their many friends and neighbors who live—or have lived—in the nearby Northeast Heights area of O’Niell’s Pub.  Some of these friends have lived in the same home for many years.  Some live on the same street with others yet do not know one another.  The intent of Friends Sharing Art is to bring together these friends, old and new, and share the love of art and long-time friendships.

August

Lynda Burch Showing July 24 – August 21

About the Artist:

“All my adult life I have admired luscious, juicy watercolors and vowed when I could retire, I would learn this art form. Never having studied art at all, I began in 1994, not waiting until retirement. I see watercolor’s magic formula as 1 part water, 1 part color, and 1 part artist’s intention. I love watching the colors mix together on the paper in unexpected patterns. The mystery of the medium offers excitement as you listen to the art unfold on it’s own, letting go of your control and experiencing spontaneous expressions on the paper. Yes, I am passionate about watermedia and I hope my audience feels it also.

I like using color in a big vibrant way creating moods to set the tone of the work. Free, bold and strong are words often used to describe my art. I am constantly turned on by new challenges and love experimental methods using related water mediums such as acrylics, collage, inks and layering techniques.

I have studied intensively, both at home and abroad, with many of today’s leading watercolorists. I am a Signature Member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society, the International Society of Experimental Artists, International Society of Acrylic Painters, a juried member of the Society of Layerists in Multi-Media and also a member of National Collage Society. I have been juried into many shows throughout the Southwest in the last few years.

A native of Texas, I chose to move to Albuquerque with my husband Jack in l981 and wouldn’t live anywhere else. I am currently showing in Amapola Gallery in Old Town,Fisher Gallery, 1620 Central, both in Albuquerque, plus the Museum Gift Shop at the Albuquerque Museum.”

Evan Travnicek -Showing April 24 – May 22

I moved to Nebraska in 2001, and there I explored a variety of mixed media on the picture plane. The deepest motive for all this experimentation is freedom. I want to open up new possibilities in art with traditional media. Many contemporary artists construct large and cumbersome installations. While these can sometimes be inspirational, they cannot be taken home and put on a wall to ponder, and then passed on to subsequent generations.

Having lived in various parts of the country definitely influences my evolving style. I’m deeply moved by all the people and places I’ve met and experienced. I work with the unconscious as I let my surroundings give me cues and directions when I work. These renderings are suited to make a harmonious addition to any household, while still maintaining an independent uniqueness.

I moved here from a retired farm in Eastern Nebraska in November 2006. As I grow with the rich and diverse culture of Albuquerque, I aim to be an influence in the development of this growing metropolis. Wherever true soul is welcome, my artwork can provide a piece of wonder, excitement, love and sometimes even fear. I thank the management and associates at O’Niell’s Pub for providing the space to show my work. And I thank each and every one of you viewers for taking the time to read this and look at my art.

It is the viewers who take part in the creation of all art.

George Howard Hayes III Showing March 22 – April 24

George Howard Hayes III aka Hauie was born in Hammond, Indiana.  Hauie spent most of his youth growing up around the Great Lakes.  He pursued one year of college to major in Art but decided to leave and become a self-taught Artist.  In 1995 Hauie moved to New Mexico to explore the Land of Enchantment.  Hauie is now secluded in the mountains of New Mexico just outside of Albuquerque.

“I study nature in many realms from natural to spiritual.  Here with my gardening, natural plant life and scenic surroundings; I find inspiration for natural and/or mystical paintings”.

Hauie’s expressions in painting have many facets that cause a separation of many work styles.

“I do not focus on one technique or one subject matter.  I jump from style to subject being called a prolific Artist.  It is not uncommon for me to work on 6 paintings at a time.  I feel for every moment an Artist thinks is a painting lost.”

Hauie continues to explore new Art and new venues in and outside of New Mexico.

First Place Winner of the 2010 New Mexico State Fair; Fine Arts show (EXPO-NEW MEXICO).

Kimberly Love Showing February 24 – March 22

Kimberly Love is a contemporary artist hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Over 15 years of meticulous personal study and experimentation, she has developed a signature technique using only a palette knife and impasto to create depth you can literally touch. “I call myself a ‘reflectionist artist’ because I believe that the universe mirrors each of us in a unique way. My art is a multi-dimensional reflection of life and the way I perceive the world.” Her work illustrates the beauty in life’s simple pleasures; each piece is a multifaceted act of expression, created to stimulate the imagination. “My paintings are visually rich and deeply layered, speaking to feelings of desire, loneliness, longing and communion.” Love draws inspiration from greats like Pollock and Van Gogh, whose aesthetics have influenced the major thematic elements she employs, such as texture and gestural abstraction. Kimberly’s art can be found in galleries, office spaces, private residences, salons, restaurants and presidential suites worldwide.
